Dear Transition Year student,

Welcome to Brain Awareness Week 2022!

Are you interested in learning more about the brain and how this knowledge can be applied to the development of new treatments?

For Brain Awareness Week, on Monday March 14th 2022, Neuroscientists at the Galway Neuroscience Center (GNC), NUI Galway have organised a day of talks, activities and fun quizzes about the brain, just for you! We aim to teach you all about the brain and show you some techniques that we as researchers use to measure brain activity.

Interested to learn a bit more about the day in the life of a neuroscientist? You will have the opportunity to learn more about what we do on a day to day basis. We, as neuroscientists, come from a range of different disciplines such as medicine, psychiatry, physiology, psychology, and mathematics who all work together to help in our understanding of various conditions associated with the brain and treatments that can help cure and/or alleviate symptoms.

Multiple experts will discuss neuroscience techniques such as EEG, MRI and cognitive testing. These techniques are used in clinical research to help us to understand the brain and how they relate to illness.

Novel treatments will then be discussed, such as prevention, cognitive remediation, and other treatments relating to neuroscience.

The main aim of this event is to reach out to you as a transition year student, promote awareness of our research and have you on board with us. Please contact us at any point with your questions, we would love to hear from you.
